Compared to DC solenoids, AC solenoids have the following decisive advantages and disadvantages:
Advantages:
- High switching dynamics
- High working stroke (up to 45 mm)
- Automatic power reduction in end position
- No rectifier needed
Disadvantages:
- Limited number of switching operations per hour
- High noise emission when reaching and maintaining the end position
- If, in a mechanical failure, the rod does not reach its end position, then the winding can burn out if it is not properly protected.
